Your Questions About How To Write A Book Review

Writing and speaking

Lizzie asks…

What is the best way to write a book review?

I want to know how to write a review on a book that I’m ccurrently reading.

vermins answers:

It really depends on the book that you are reading and how long you want the book review to be. But here is a suggestion:

title page
brief introduction
author’s purpose/objective/thesis (why the author wrote the book)
brief overview of the book

what was your opinion of the book
take about some of the issues or plot conflicts in the book and how effectively it was developed
critique the book- would you encourage other people to read the book

you can also compare your book to another book written by the same author (this is more effective if the two books have a similar theme e.g. Mansfield park vs. Pride and prejudice by Jane Austen)

other sections you can add for non-fiction book reviews:
did you agree or disagree with the author’s point of view
how effective was the book in supporting its thesis

keep in mind that you can add other sections to the book review to make it longer. You can also get rid of some sections to shorten it. Also get creative and write about someone else that other people have not thought about

good luck with your book review

Sharon asks…

how to write a book review ??? main points?

neeed to write book review on danny chapion the of world but dont really no what to do what are some main points ???

vermins answers:

Write a basic answer for each of these things.
1. Things I would change in the book
2. Things I liked in the book
3. Author writing style
4. Why you should read this book
5. Age level and why
6. Short description of each main character
7. Paragraph summary of the book plot

Add more to the list if you like.
Remember, youre starting small, so dont add many adjectives of metaphors in at this stage. Keep it nice and simple.

Make a list of all the great ‘persuasive language’ words you can think of, that describe characters, the plot, and the authors style.
E.g. Evocative, gruesome, insightful, ensnaring, gripping.
Once you have as many of these as you can think of, right click on your word. Click ‘Synonyms’. And then click ‘Thesaurus…’. This will show heaps of great new words basically translating to the same thing.

Now is the time to put EVERYTHING together, elaborate on each of those orginal answers, and combine them with your awesome formal language.

Final step, send me your book review so I can PROOFREAD it little missy! Try not to leave me too many grammatical errors! Haha hope it helps (:
