Kids and teens

You will experience plenty of challenges on down the road when your little child becomes a teenager. This is a rite of passage for both of you. This is a rite of passage that neither you nor your teen can avoid. But, we do not view this as all doom and gloom… not at all. Luckily, both you and your teenager will enjoy this time in their life. There will be exciting times with new challenges and plenty of opportunities for experience. You have to discover what is doable with your child and give them plenty of things that they can tackle on their own. But these challenges are meant to mold and groom them into responsible adults whenever they become older and move out.

Children can be compared to weasels, but lovable ones of course. I say that because they will try to find any way around some things such as one of your command parental decisions. You need to be strong and stick to your guns in these moments. You’re the only one who knows why you decided what you did and your child is only looking at how it will hurt them. All your future decisions will be contested if you give in just once. You can’t change your decision, thereby letting the child win. It’s also a good idea to show your child that no matter how hard they try, they won’t get away with it. Have you ever been put in the situation where you did something that had negative results and your parents knew what the outcome would be beforehand but did nothing to stop it? You can now appreciate that you were being taught a lesson the hard way. You’ve probably never forgotten this particular lesson. These are situation specific judgment calls that you will have to make. Learning to make their own decisions in situations where the consequences are minimal, is a valuable and useful exercise.

Since you’ve started instilling responsibilities in your children, they would be a great person to apply for a part-time job. A job will continue to teach them responsibility in various ways, which will benefit you and them. Then there are socializing aspects of it, getting out of the house, becoming more like an adult and having responsibilities. It’s never too early to start teaching your children about managing their finances.

The whole parenting idea starts changing drastically once the kids grow up into teens. Though there will be quite a few obstacles, it can still prove to be a fun time for the whole family.
